This Pittsburgh native has been with the Education Foundation of Sarasota County for 2 years and brings over 15 years of experience working in higher education, primarily at the University of South Florida, where she also received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

NPHS Mission and History

North Port High School will inspire tomorrow’s leaders by providing rigorous instruction, maintaining a safe & respectful environment and developing socially responsible individuals in their community & beyond.

North Port High School was founded in 2001 and is home to 2,340 students and 250 faculty members on a spacious open campus on the central west coast of Florida. A high-quality faculty helps each student discover his or her talents through assorted academics and richly diverse extracurricular programs. 

  • NPHS Performing Arts Center is a state-of-the-art venue that seats over 1,025 people
  • Spaces provided for NPHS arts programs include a photography darkroom, ceramics studio and kilns, electronic piano lab, music practice rooms, and dance studio. 
  • An on-campus Student Success Center is available to assist students with their postsecondary pathways. Resources include help with college applications, career research, financial aid guidance, social-emotional workshops, and more. The center is an extension of the Education Foundation of Sarasota County and is staffed with a full-time College Career Advisor.
  • Unique school features include drafting labs, industrial culinary arts kitchen, 16 science labs, 11 computer labs, 47 laptop carts and an indoor/outdoor café.
  • Freshman students participate in team-building activities with an upper-class mentor to facilitate an understanding of how to become successful students and gain comfort in their new environment. 
  • Class spirit is reinforced through advisory and various activities like powderpuff, clash of the classes, class spirit day, homecoming and prom. 

SHS Signature Programs

CAMBRIDGE ADVANCED INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATION (AICE) 

  • Internationally recognized pre-university curriculum which emphasizes the value of the broad and balanced study. 
  • Provides a high-quality diploma, preparing students for honors degree programs. 
  • Offers students the opportunity to tailor their studies to their individual interests, abilities, and future plans. 
  • Students who complete AICE courses and receive a passing score on the exam offered at the end of the course can earn college credits from more than 450 colleges in the US. 

CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION (CTE) 

  • CTE classes are aligned to NPHS career pathways: Web Design, Engineering, Digital Video Production, Commercial Foods and Culinary Arts, Allied Health Assisting, and Early Childhood Education. 
  • Students earn industry certifications and participate in on-the-job training and internships. 

CULINARY ARTS PROGRAM 

  • One of the premier culinary programs in Florida. 
  • Students apply their skills in a state-of-the-art kitchen while learning a variety of culinary arts techniques that will prepare them to advance in the field. 

DUAL ENROLLMENT 

  • NPHS offers 12 college courses on campus as part of the dual enrollment program with the State College of Florida. 
  • Students in grades 10-12 with a 3.0 unweighted GPA and qualifying PERT scores may apply to take dual enrollment courses free of charge. 
  • Students receive both high school credit (applied towards a high school diploma) and college credit (applied towards a Florida college degree). 

NJROTC 

  • Focuses on four fundamentals of success: fighting spirit, integrity, respect and teamwork. 
  • Academic enrichment and achievement is the fundamental cornerstone of the program. 
  • Students must hold a 2.0 GPA, be passing all academic courses, and have a “C” or higher grade in the NJROTC course in order to participate in the program. 
  • 110 student cadets participate in NPHS NJROTC. 
  • The NPHS unit was recognized as a Distinguished Unit for the second year in a row by the Naval Training Service Center. This is the highest unit award achievable to an NJROTC unit. 

VISUAL & PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAM (VPA) 

  • Provides highly specialized and intensive training for students who possess special talents in the visual and performing arts area of the chorus, dance, and theatre (performance and technical). 
  • Students must take at least 8 credits in their arts discipline. 
  • VPA experiences and training are designed to prepare serious students of the arts for future study. 
  • The North Port Performing Arts Center is a state-of-the-art performance venue that affords students the opportunity to perform on stage and exhibit their artwork. 
  • VPA courses and instruction overlap with a strong focus on the core disciplines of reading, writing, math and science allowing students to make associations within their comfort zone and to improve upon the skills need to be productive within high school and society. 
  • NPHS VPA students get the opportunity to experience Ringling College of Art & Design, Disney’s Choral Performances, Music in Our School Month Performances, Van Wezel Performances, Ringling Museum, Dali Museum, North Port Community Band, national and community speakers/performers.
