Amazing teachers are the most critical component in helping students be successful. The Education Foundation designs initiatives to help inspire our best teachers and elevate the value in which our community holds them.

EducateSRQ encourages educators across K-12 grade levels to apply for grants that will directly support their individual classrooms through hands-on projects that cover all subjects or via an EdExploreSRQ field trip, a program we are proud to amplify. School-wide grants afford Sarasota County Schools administrators with the ability to improve entire schools overall and make greater leaps toward 21st-century learning environments.

Thanks to generous donors, the Education Foundation has awarded over $3 million for more than 4,000 classroom grants, opening new horizons for thousands of students over the years.

Teacher of the Year Awards Celebration
2019 Teacher of the Year: Shane Swezey, Oak Park School

The annual Ignite Education Awards Celebration, in partnership with Sarasota County Schools, showcases teachers who show commitment and leadership and who motivate students to learn through distinctive methods and passion. Each district school nominates its honoree and a winning educator for the district is named.

In 2017-18, an Alumni of Distinction award was added to honor a distinguished alumnus or alumna from a Sarasota County Schools high school in recognition of public schools’ role in achieving career success.

IGNITE EDUCATION: Professional Development Program
The Education Foundation sponsored three International Baccalaureate educators on a professional development trip to visit Good Work Foundation digital learning campuses in South Africa in summer 2018. The goal was to expand effective and innovative teaching skills and understanding of global cultures.  A 2019 trip location is under review.
