Chief Program Officer

The Chief Program Officer is a dynamic and multi-tasking education professional who is passionate about elevating student success and can enthusiastically support the mission of the Education Foundation of Sarasota County which is to enhance the potential of students, promote excellence in teaching, and inspire innovation in education guided by strategic philanthropy.

Reporting to the Education Foundation of Sarasota County President & CEO, the Chief Program Officer serves on the senior leadership team as the primary team member responsible for overseeing and managing all direct service programs with a specific focus on providing leadership and guidance to the College Career Advisors and Director of Student Support to ensure strong integration, delivery, and assessments of the Foundation’s programs in support of the Board’s 3-year strategic plan. The Chief Program Officer collaborates with district leadership and Sarasota County Schools personnel to support a shared vision to see all students graduate with a college, career, and life plan that leads to success. The Chief Program Officer works as part of a team and will work closely with the President & CEO and other senior leaders with a positive professional attitude and strategic mindset.

Direct service programs:

  1. College, Career, and Life Readiness (CCLR) – middle school and high school support to help students prepare, plan, and graduate with purpose. Three Student Success Centers, operated and managed by the Foundation, are located in area high schools, and one center is located in a centralized community location as a BETA site facility. The CCLR scope also includes the successful implementation of Naviance in grades 6-12 along with college explorations, career explorations, career chats, and more.
  2. Postsecondary Mentoring – high school students are identified at the end of their 11th grade and paired with a caring adult to provide mentoring support through their postsecondary completion. A Director of Student Support manages the mentoring program, providing advising/guidance to students, implementing a curriculum, and providing ongoing support/training for volunteer mentors.
  3. Teacher Leadership – this is an emerging program at the Foundation and is part of the 3-year strategic plan. A task force has been convened to help set the initial direction for peer-to-peer professional learning support.

Chief Program Officer Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the CEO, provide strategic planning, design, and implementation of all direct service programs in alignment with the Foundation’s 3-year strategic plan.
  • Work in collaboration with all team members to fulfill the 3-year strategic plan with active engagement and support of other senior team member responsibilities.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to the high school college career advisors and Director of Student Support creating cohesive alignment.
  • Oversee program content design and delivery ensuring consistent, timely, and relevant programs, workshops, webinars, activities, and supports are offered to students and families.
  • Create and support teacher-led, professional learning communities that strengthen teacher networks.
  • Refine, monitor, and evaluate the effectiveness of programs with data-informed decision making, making modifications where needed for continuous improvement.
  • Strengthen program quality through people, processes, and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with district leadership, school leadership teams, and curriculum specialists to promote a shared vision to help students graduate with purpose with a college, career and life plan that leads to success.
  • Communicate various means of measuring programmatic quality to share our story with internal and external partners through evidence-based decision making and for grant reporting purposes.
  • Scale service deliverables, such as career explorations, career chats, college explorations, and Naviance curriculum to reach more students.
  • Design and offer professional development workshops for appropriate stakeholders as needed.
  • Oversee the fiscal management of direct program services.
  • Conduct research as need to stay up-to-date on current issues in education
  • Serve as an advocate and spokesperson on behalf of the Foundation to district personnel, parents, family and the community-at-large.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited educational institution in Education, School Counseling or related discipline; doctorate preferred
  • 10+ years’ experience working in education with increasing responsibilities, Florida public schools experience preferred
  • Experience developing programs for teachers, students, families and volunteers
  • Experience piloting new programs, creating effective measurements, and scaling successful programs
  • Strong computer and technology skills
  • Ability to analyze data and form conclusions
  • Knowledge of college and career counseling and community resources
  • Knowledge of services and regulations of community agencies, including Child and Family Services, Juvenile Justice and the Health Department
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Bi-lingual a plus
