The League of Women Voters of Sarasota County, a nonpartisan grassroots organization that encourages participation in government, works to increase understanding of public policy issues, and influences policy through education and advocacy. The contest is open to all 6th-, 7th-, and 8th-grade students attending one of Sarasota County’s district public schools or public charter schools.

Entry Guidelines

• Essays over 500 words will not be accepted.
• 2D Artwork can be: 24×36, 16×24 or 11×17, and should be submitted digitally (unframed).
• Videos have a time limit of 1-3 minutes.
• Entries must be nonpartisan and they cannot support, demean, or defame any political party or person.
• All work must be original.
• Professional assistance is not allowed.
• Entries may be submitted if they have not previously won an award and are not currently being considered in another contest.
• At the time of entry, each contestant must submit a completed and signed Consent Form.
• All entries become the exclusive property of the LWVSRQ.
• If technical or other difficulties compromise the contest, the LWVSRQ may modify, postpone, or cancel the contest

WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED BY LATE MARCH 2027

PRIZES For Each Type of Entry for Each Grade:

• First place (each grade, 3 prizes) – $200
• Second place (each grade, 3 prizes) – $100
• Third place (each grade, 3 prizes) – $50
