In honor of Gap Year Association’s 10th anniversary, and in partnership with Tortuga Backpacks, the Gap Year Association (GYA) is pleased to announce a gap year scholarship opportunity for those planning a gap experience in 2023. As the only national nonprofit coordinating the gap year movement, GYA’s mission is to maximize the potential of young adults through accessible and meaningful gap year opportunities. GYA is thrilled to have the support of Tortuga, a company whose mission is to make travel easier, including for study abroad and gap year students. This scholarship is a collaborative effort aimed at enacting our shared vision of making intentional gap year experiences accessible to more students.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

To apply for the GYA/Tortuga Gap Year Scholarship, you must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 21 during your gap year experience
  • Have a gap year plan that is at least two months in duration and that will take place between 1/1/2023 and 12/31/2023

THE SCHOLARSHIP

The winner of the GYA/Tortuga Gap Year Scholarship will receive:

  • $2,500 scholarship to be used for room & board, travel, and/or program tuition for a gap year experience occurring between 1/1/2023 and 12/31/2023.
  • 1 Tortuga travel backpack

APPLICATION DEADLINE

Applications are due by October 31, 2022. The winner will be announced at the GYA Virtual Summit on November 17, 2022.
