Sons of the American Revolution Saramana Chapter Freedom Essay Contest is open to all public, private and home school high school students (grades 9-12) in the Manatee and Sarasota counties school districts. All students are encouraged to compete. This is not a contest for the best writer. This is a contest for the one who best understands and articulates what Freedom is.

Before students submit their essays, they need to submit a response to “Intent to Compete” google form on the organization’s website. This needs to be done by September 14th. To submit their essays, all students need to do is upload them to the google form on the organization’s website under “Essay Submission.” The essay is due October 29th. 

The essay should be 700 words-or-less that answers the following questions:

1. What is not being free?

2. What is being free?

3. What are the costs to achieve freedom?

4. What are the costs to maintain freedom?

5. What are the responsibilities of freedom?

6. Compare and contrast freedom to authoritarianism.
