On August 10, the first day of the 2022 – 2023 school year, students at Sarasota Military Academy (SMA) will return to school to find a new addition: a Student Success Center on their campus. The Education Foundation of Sarasota County is excited to open and staff this new center with two Student Success Coaches.
At the center, students will work one on one with their Student Success Coach to identify their purpose and interests and to map those to possible college, military, and career pathways. They will be able to attend workshops on paying for college, essay writing, resumes, and more. They can access an online college- and career-planning platform. Students can find individualized help at every step of the planning process as they get ready for life after high school.
Located just north of downtown Sarasota, SMA serves approximately 700 students. Of these students, 50.2% are students of color and 50.4% are economically disadvantaged. We value the opportunity to provide this level of comprehensive support to those students who most need it.
Indeed, opening a Student Success Center at SMA is part of our effort to reach students traditionally underserved and underrepresented. We are building relationships in the community to identify students who need extra support and to meet these students where they are.
We seek to unite the community to prepare each and every student for life, and we are excited to welcome SMA students to their Student Success Center. It’s never too early, or late, to start planning and getting ready for life after high school—and we’re here to help.
