Cars and Coffee—and Education

Aug 30, 2021

To support students and teachers as they headed back into classrooms, Suncoast Motorsports and the University Town Center (UTC) invited the Education Foundation of Sarasota County to be the featured non-profit during the August Cars and Coffee gathering.

We were honored to be selected for August, an exciting time at the Education Foundation. In August, we start receiving applications for EducateSRQ Teacher Grants, and more and more students, especially seniors preparing for college, visit our Student Success Centers to formulate a plan and find ways to pay for their education after high school.

Though postponed a week by the threat of Tropical Storm Fred, the event again brought out hundreds of car lovers to show off their prized vehicles, sip good coffee, and support a local organization. As they arrived, Diana Dill collected donations from drivers of Lamborghinis, vintage Mercedes, Mustangs, and everything in between.

By the end of the event, thanks to the generosity of car owners, Suncoast Motorsports, and UTC, we received $3,200 to support students and teachers. The money will help us fund teacher grants that allow our educators to purchase supplies and innovative learning opportunities for our students. In normal times, these grants make a tremendous difference in the lives of our teachers and students. During a pandemic, they have been vital.

We are grateful for all the support of our students and teachers, and for the opportunity to be part of this fun event.
