When you were in high school, odds are you didn’t realize that decisions you were making and what you were learning would impact everything in your future adult life, from how and where you live and work, to the car you drive, the clothes your children wear and how many times a week you take your family out to dinner.
The Education Foundation of Sarasota County is focused on helping students prepare for college, career and life after high school. Life readiness includes financial readiness, and that’s where I contribute – as a board member and designer of the Dollar$ and $ense workshop series.
After spending my career as a university professor, teaching master’s and Ph.D. students at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, and the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago, I enthusiastically am teaching high school students to help make them financially ready for life.
Dollar$ and $ense is not a typical lecture course. Rather, it’s designed to be experiential and enduring by showing young adults how to think about what their lives will look like and how choices made now can hinder or further those projections. Continue reading.
