Teachers are a fundamental part of a thriving community. They inspire and motivate students to pursue their dreams and to succeed in their future endeavors, and they play a critical role in ensuring the well-being of our young people. It is impossible to quantify the myriad of ways that our teachers positively shape Sarasota County.
This year, as the pandemic has altered our lives and certainly our schools, teachers have been challenged in ways they could never have imagined. Their demanding jobs became more difficult as they learned how to use and navigate multiple instructional platforms and deliver engaging lessons to their remote and in-class students – all while dealing with the disruptions COVID-19 brought to their own lives.
Every day our teachers are on the front line to ensure that all of our students get the education they deserve. The courage they have shown, their collaborative spirit and their commitment to our students is remarkable.
Since becoming superintendent last summer, I have been visiting schools around the county for a series we call “On the Move.” From Brookside to Bay Haven – from Pine View to Suncoast Polytechnical – I have experienced amazing lessons and toured impressive facilities. Continue reading.
