Letter grades and learning gains are common indicators of student success. But accomplishment depends on much more than letters and numbers.

At the Education Foundation of Sarasota County, we believe that relationships play a powerful role in the development of our young people and lead to lasting success.

As a college career adviser at our Student Success Center in Riverview High School, I see every day the importance of providing an inviting, safe place where students can form relationships with encouraging advisers.

At Student Success Centers in our three area high schools as well as remotely via Zoom, we share insight as students explore pathways after high school. We assist in the college essay and resume writing process. We educate students and families on financial aid and the importance of FAFSA. We help search for schools and scholarships and career opportunities.

Sometimes we just provide encouragement, show faith in a student full of uncertainty, and that can make all the difference.
