Pine View Student Translates Grief into Advocacy for Suicide Prevention

What would you say to comfort a friend who lost a loved one to suicide?

“Try to continue to live your life the way that person would want you to live.”

Marissa Fontaine’s advice is born from painful personal experience. Nine months ago, in the second week of the Pine View School student’s senior year, her father took his life.

The suicide shocked the family. Marissa’s 43-year-old father had a successful career, a nice home and took his family on fun vacations.

Few people knew that a few months prior, he had been diagnosed with severe anxiety and depression.
