When I’ve exhausted my repertoire of lame “dad jokes” and it’s time to check homework, I put on my lab coat that’s covered with math problems and get into character as “Dr. Math.”
Like a physician who needs to know what hurts before it can be treated, Dr. Math has to see students’ work to diagnose a problem and prescribe a remedy.
These techniques help demonstrate we can have fun while making a big effort to learn math. When class is fun, students are less stressed and more confident that math success is within reach.
