One of my greatest joys over 35 years of teaching has been introducing students to the joy of learning.
In the first few years of schooling, students learn to read, write, compute, analyze and discuss. They learn how to communicate with peers and be kind and respectful citizens.
Some students enter kindergarten not knowing a single letter, and they leave able to write, read and compose sentences. Students who barely counted on one hand at the beginning can add and subtract by the end of the year.
Those are big milestones for little children, some of whom are still practicing tying their shoes.
