Excited, encouraged and exhausted. I felt all of those during my turn as Sarasota County’s 2019 “Teacher of the Year.”
As my year of representing our district’s teachers draws to a close, I’m reflecting on an experience I never anticipated.
A year ago, I was grateful to be selected as Oak Park School’s “Teacher of the Year.” The surprise announcements that I was named the middle school and then district “Teacher of the Year” were nearly overwhelming.
Early on, I decided to use the award as a platform to give voice to students, like my special-needs kids who often don’t have a say, and to teachers who deserve to be heard and valued every day. Keep reading.
